Ms. Khawar Mumtaz

Ms. Khawar Mumtaz is a prominent women’s rights advocate and currently serves as Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women. An active member of the women’s rights movement, she has worked extensively with Shirkat Gah, a leading women’s rights organisation, where she also served as Chief Executive Officer. Her professional experience spans women’s rights advocacy, university teaching and journalism.

Ms. Mumtaz holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and a diploma in French. Her areas of expertise include women and development, political participation, economic empowerment, environment, and reproductive health and rights. She has authored and co-authored numerous research reports and publications, including Two Steps Forward, One Step Back?, co-authored with Farida Shaheed. In 1989, she received the Prime Minister’s Award for Women of Pakistan. She is also a recipient of the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, a civil award conferred in recognition of her contributions to promoting women’s rights.
