Dr. Tahir Rasheed

He is the Chief Executive Officer of the Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP) and a development practitioner with over 32 years of experience in rural development, natural resource management and climate change adaptation. He has multidisciplinary academic and professional expertise spanning anthropology, rural development and forestry.

Prior to his current role at BRSP, Dr. Rasheed held several senior positions with national and international development and conservation organisations. His previous assignments include Director of Wildlife and Regional Head for Sindh and Balochistan at WWF-Pakistan, Chief Executive Officer of the South Punjab Forest Company, General Manager at LEAD Pakistan, National Project Manager with UNDP, Chief Executive Officer of the Sustainable Use Specialist Group for Central Asia, and senior roles with WWF-Pakistan.

Dr. Rasheed has extensive experience in conducting socio-ecological studies and developing policy and planning documents, including management, development and conservation plans and technical manuals. He has also provided professional expertise to WWF Indo-China Vietnam, a conservation organisation in Afghanistan, and Kalpavriksh, India, contributing to initiatives including an Environmental Education Strategy and Pakistan’s national report on Community Conserved Areas.

He has served as a master trainer in environment and development for government and non-governmental institutions. His professional interests focus on biodiversity conservation, strengthening grassroots organisations, sustainable natural resource management, and the relationship between environmental sustainability and development. He also works on understanding how international environmental negotiations affect indigenous and local communities.
