Early recovery and resilience building through restoration of agriculture/livestock-based livelihoods and rehabilitation of irrigation and critical WASH infrastructure
The project will support 10,460 flood-affected households (62,760 people) across 35 severely impacted villages of Tehsil Bahawalpur.
RSPN is implementing a UN -OCHA / AHF Pakistan–funded Early Recovery and Resilience-Building Project through its partner, the National Rural Support Program (NRSP), in District Bahawalpur, Tehsil Bahawalpur. The project covers Union Councils including Sanjar, Jangiwala ,Khaniwali, and Jalalabad.

Objective
Its overall objective is to contribute to early recovery and enhance the resilience of flood-affected communities through the restoration of agriculture and livestock-based livelihoods and the rehabilitation of irrigation and WASH infrastructure
Key Outputs
The project will achieve its objectives through two main outputs:
Restoration and protection of agriculture/livestock-based livelihoods and food security, and
Rehabilitation and repair of community water points, sanitation facilities, and small-scale irrigation systems
Major Interventions
The project will implement the following interventions:
Food Security:
Provide Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) to 2,615 smallholder farmers to purchase agricultural inputs (fertilizers, seeds, etc.) for rabi crops like wheat or canola.
Support to 2,615 smallholder livestock farmers to grow or purchase fodder for their animals.
Organize Farmer Field School (FFS) sessions at the village level in coordination with the Livestock Department and Department of Agriculture. These sessions will provide smallholder farmers with training and advisory services on climate-smart livestock management, fodder management, climate-smart agriculture practices, and market linkages for livestock products.
Conduct livestock/poultry vaccination and drenching campaigns in all target villages to prevent diseases.
Community Resource Persons (CRPs) will conduct awareness sessions for both men and women on WASH, Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), nutrition-sensitive agriculture, household water safety, and the prevention of diarrhea, pneumonia, influenza-like illnesses (ILI), acute respiratory infections (ARI), dengue, and other seasonal diseases
WASH
Map critical water, irrigation, and sanitation infrastructure damaged during floods to identify priority rehabilitation needs.
Provide financial and technical support to communities, including cash-for-work, to rehabilitate at least one infrastructure scheme per village (drinking water, irrigation, or sanitation), totalling 35 schemes.
Prepare and implement community-level water safety plans to prevent waterborne diseases.
Engage communities through village meetings ensuring the inclusion of women, children, youth, persons with disabilities, and religious minorities.
Coordinate with the Department of Health to launch vaccination campaigns, focusing on pneumonia and diarrhea prevention among vulnerable populations.
