SUCCESS Programme’s launching ceremony held at SZABIST, Larkana

Larkana, 29 March: Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) officially launched the Sindh Union Council and Community Economic Strengthening Support (SUCCESS) Programme today. In this connection a launch ceremony were held in Larkana.
The launch ceremony, held at the auditorium of SZABIST, was attended, among others, by Mr. Shoaib Sultan Khan, Chairman RSPN, Commissioner of Larkana Division Mr. Akbar Laghari, MPA Muhammad Ali Bhutto, SRSO board member Mr. Fazalullah Qureshi, Mr. Nazar Memon, Mr. Muhammad Dittal Kalhoro, CEO of SRSO, local notables, political leaders, representatives of various organisations and a large number of local women from rural areas of Larkana.
Women community leaders from Shikarpur, Kashmore-Kandhkot and Jacobabad shared their inspirational personal stories of successfully overcoming poverty by becoming socially organized as part of the Union Council Based Poverty Reduction Programme (UCBPRP) a join initiative of the Sindh government and SRSO, launched in 2009.
Their stories were full of conviction, struggle, passion, hope and a desire to change the economic condition of their households. The audience loved the energetic and lively talks by the four female community members.
Mr. Shoaib Sultan Khan, in his insightful speech, shed light on the history of the UCBPRP initiative. He appreciated the government of Sindh and the European Union for constantly supporting the rural development programmes.
He said that the RSPs are effective in reducing poverty because, unlike other organisations, they have roots in the households and, thus, can easily access each household in the programme areas.
Mr. Shoaib Sultan Khan further said that the three tier of Community Organisations, Village Organisation and Local Support Organisation, form the third pillar – the social pillar, of the society, to complement and supplement the political and administrative pillars.
Concluding the launch ceremony, Mr. Akbar Laghari, Commissioner of Larkana Division, in an engaging speech, said that freedom to work, opportunities, awareness, and education are vital for changing the statue of women in the society.
Earlier, SRSO’s CEO Mr. Muhammad Dittal Kalhoro welcomed the guests and shed llight on the overall objectives of the EU funded SUCCESS programme.
Mr. Jamal Shoro, Programme Manager SUCCESS-SRSO made a detailed presentation about the programme objectives and progress made so far. He said that
The session was also addressed by MPA Mr. Muhammad Ali Bhutto and some other political and social leaders.
Also present at the occasion were district administration officials.
